Things to do on Your Lunch Break

30 Minutes to 60 Minutes

I used to work at a place where my lunch breaks were thirty minutes long. By the time you got your food, sat down, chatted with the co-workers, you really only had 15 minutes to scarf food down. Potential choking hazard drama! I’m not complaining about the length of time because I know that there are some people who do not have time to eat with their work or home schedules.

Yet, now I have a whole hour to devote to lunch. When you’re used to 30 minutes, a whole hour is like double the time or something. So, what can you do on an hour lunch break? All sorts of shenani…uh…I mean things…yeah, things.

Thing 1

Since I had all this time on my hands, I thought I would put my hands to good use and draw a few things. Now, I’m not a master artist, but Pablo Picasso ain’t got nothin’ on me!

As you can see, my artistry transcends normal boundaries into a place of untold discovery and understanding. There are imitators (Van Gogh, Dali, and Monet), but they can’t grasp the plain concept of simplistic pen strokes as I can with my right hand. Yes, grasp…

Some Quotes on Boredom, Lunch, and Stuff

“The two enemies of human happiness are pain and boredom.” – Arthur Schopenhauer –

“There’s no excuse to be bored. Sad, yes. Angry, yes. Depressed, yes. Crazy, yes. But there’s no excuse for boredom, ever.” – Viggo Mortensen –

“The Beatles saved the world from boredom.” – George Harrison –

“I haven’t trusted polls since I read that 62% of women had affairs during their lunch hour. I’ve never met a woman in my life who would give up lunch for sex.” – Erma Bombeck –

“There’s no such thing as a free lunch.” – Milton Friedman –

“When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” – Hunter S. Thompson –

Yeah, I don’t know what that last one really pertains to, but I read it more than once, so it’s here.

Thing 2

Selfies are the next generation’s validation mechanism. Meaning, they take selfies to make themselves feel wanted, important, popular, on a global scale. Some may take selfies to add to the concepts they are trying to portray on their blog or website. Others will take selfies to try it out and see what all the fuss is about. Personally, selfies are something to joke with and have fun with, not to use as the means of producing evidence of your existence. The federal government already does that. Have you taken a selfie? Do you even care? Probably not. Me neither.

Other Things You Can Do…

Here’s a short list of random things you can do on your lunch break, when you get bored, or have a little extra time carved out of our day.

Eat your lunch
Use the restroom without being rushed
Take random selfies
Draw
Read a book
Play a game
Scare people
Think
Exercise
Play pranks on people
Run errands
Clean something (like I’d waste time doing that on my lunch)
Other stuff

What other things do you do on your lunch break?

Whatever You Do…

So if you have some extra time to spare on your lunch break, do something silly, fun, productive, weird, or whatever. Don’t let the whole hour go to waste just eating. That’s just silly! If you don’t know what to do on your lunch break and you need a little push, send me an email. I’ll make sure to give you something to do!

Happy Writing, everyone.
